As you probably know, home design trends are always changing. And as realtors it's our job to have strong opinions on the home design. [Just kidding....kinda.]
So we did some digging and pulled the 5 Top Home Design Trends for this year. The nice part is that these trends are actually realistic for normal humans with jobs, kids, dogs, and junk drawers. [Terry literally tried to open his kitchen junk drawer this morning, and couldn't get it open. Ugh.]
Here they are:
1. Warmth is back! Goodbye cold gray! Earthy neutrals, warmer whites, creams, taupes, terracotta, and wood tones that feel lived-in are back and better than ever. The best way to ease into it:
Swap a couple of throw pillows and a blanket to warmer tones
Replace bright-white bulbs with softer warm lighting
Add one warm wood accent [tray, side table, frame]
2. Intentional maximalism and personal storytelling. The minimalist look isn't over, but the look now is layered, collected, and very personal. Actually, we kind of love this look. [Unless you're selling your home soon. Then we need to back off the personal storytelling.] For everybody else:
Start with one wall--create a small gallery wall above a sofa or console with thrifted frames, printable art, family photos and postcards, etc.
Choose a tray, shelf, or mantle and style a few favorite books, candles, plants, and objects. Use odd numbers. [Trust us, odd numbers make a difference.]
Make sure you are maximizing with items you love! Not just stuff you found on clearance at Target.
3. Colorful/bold moments [but you don’t have to go full send]. We recommend fewer “safe” rooms, and more personality. [Again--if you're selling your home soon, disregard this.]
Paint a powder room, laundry room, or office a deeper color
Do one “statement” item: rug, art, or chair
Join the trend: paint the front door a bold color. Sure, everybody is doing it...but so can you! =)
4. The "Analog Retreat" [Tech-Free Zones]. Okay, we super duper love this one. In an age of AI and constant connectivity [which we love BTW], the ultimate luxury in 2026 is disconnection. Designers are being asked to create "Analog Rooms" - dedicated spaces with zero screens. [Can you imagine?]
Think cozy libraries, "listening rooms" for vinyl, or meditation nooks.
Prioritize tactile comfort, like plush wool rugs, super cozy furniture, etc.
If you do this, PLEASE send us a pic. We want to see it. [And maybe come visit.]
5. Practical luxury: spaces that work harder [bars, beverage stations, multipurpose rooms]. People are using their homes more intentionally, especially for hosting, family life, and everyday convenience. This will mean different things to different people, but here are some ideas:
Create a simple coffee/beverage station [even on a small cart]
Add a “drop zone” by the door [hooks + tray + basket]
Upgrade function: better storage > more decor
The real takeaway: Trends are fun, but the best home design is still a home that feels like YOU and makes your daily life easier.
And if your home doesn't fit your life anymore, you know how to find us.
