Hey friends —
Real talk: you probably don’t know what your house smells like. That’s not an insult — it’s science. (It’s called "nose-blindness" and yes, Febreze made millions off it.)
If you’re hosting people this spring, or thinking about selling your home, it might be time for a little “smell audit.”
A few things we've learned from showing a lot of homes:
- Best smells: citrus, vanilla, clean laundry, fresh-baked cookies
- Worst smells: gym bag, cigarette smoke, anything vaguely fishy
- Underrated tip: skip the mega-scented candles — one good candle is plenty
- Pet owners: sorry, but yes, we can tell. [But we still love you]
Our secret “pre-showing smell hack”? Put a few drops of vanilla extract on a baking sheet or in a mug, and pop it in the oven at 300°F for 10–15 minutes right before the showing. It’s weirdly simple and totally works.
Smell ya later!
