Ooooooohhhhh ya GOTTA love this early fall weather, right?? We're loving it! [Well, Terry more so than Andy, who longs for eternal summer.] Fall is creeping in, which means it's “first time the furnace kicks on” season any day now.
Before you crank up the heat, do this quick, cheap[ish] move:
Replace the weatherstripping around your doors and windows.
Why it’s worth it:
- Keeps warm air in and cold air out [your heating bill will thank you]
- Blocks drafts before they start
- Takes about an hour and a few bucks to do yourself
While you’re at it, here are two more quick energy-saving wins:
- Reverse your ceiling fans to spin clockwise [pushes the warm air down...supposedly]
- Close your fireplace flue when it’s not in use [otherwise it's a MASSIVE heat-suck]
This is some next-level homeowner maintenance. Your grandpa would be proud of you.
